Janice Mae (Swartling) Mack, 88, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at her home surrounded by her children. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Janice was born on March 24, 1936 in Trempealeau, Wisconsin. Janice went to Madison Tech and earned her Associates Degree as an LPN. She worked at East Medical Clinic in Madison for a little over a year. Janice married Glenn Mack on November 28, 1957 in Alma Center, Wisconsin. They spent 66 wonderful years together.

Glenn and Janice were the proud owners of Mack Trucking, a U.S. Star Route Mail carrier from July 1958 until their well-deserved retirement in 2004. Alongside their business, they devoted themselves to nurturing the land they farmed. Their property was home to a delightful array of animals, both in the front field and the back yard. Janice took great pleasure in caring for the numerous birds, which in turn provided nourishment for the squirrels and chipmunks, although they shouldn't have gotten into the bird feeders, they did. She always took pride in the good health and well-being of her beloved animals.

The gentle, soothing sound of Jan's voice was like that of an angel, a precious gift to anyone fortunate enough to experience it. She filled the air with her voice, especially during moments when her children were unwell, soothing them with her comforting songs. Additionally, when she cradled her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she would serenade them to sleep, tenderly holding them for hours.

Grandma's home was always filled with love and care. It was a place where no child left hungry, and grandchildren could stop by to grab a snack, shortbread cookies on the counter or peanuts by the microwave. She would share a warm greeting, and they would feel the love she had for them. Her smile reflected the satisfaction of knowing she had provided for them.

The memory of Janice will forever be cherished by her children, who remember her as a devoted and loving wife, steadfastly standing by Glenn's side. The true love they shared is a source of inspiration for all of them.

We all understood that once one of them passed away, the other would not be far behind. Although we as children would never be ready, we knew their souls were destined to be united for eternity.

Janice is survived by their children, Mona McCrackin, Jeff (Lisa) Mack, Vicki Mack, Greg (Vicki) Mack, Dennis (Sherri) Mack, Joe Mack, Julie (Kevin) Delikowski, and Sally (Jon) Otto; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Mack in May of this year; parents, Benjamin and Bernice Swartling; and siblings, Joyce Rhodes, Ronald Swartling and Leo Swartling.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
